CS School Board Presentation of New College View High School

The College Station school board was given an update at its last meeting about the expansion of its alternative high school, Timber Academy, into what will become College View High School.

Superintendent Clark Ealy reviewed the $15.5 million dollar facility approved by voters in November 2013 will hold its first classes in the fall of 2016. CSISD’s LEAP and Venture programs will also be under the same roof.

Discussion among board members and administrators..including board president Valerie Jochen and vice-president Jeff Harris…focused on not losing what has made Timber successful as the enrollment grows from around 50 to as many as 200 students. Dr. Ealy said College View will continue Timber’s emphasis on relationships.

New programs includes intramural sports and what was described as an “innovative art” program.

In addition, College View students will have modified block scheduling that is common in higher education, they will have the option of taking dual credit classes at Blinn College, and there will be an EMT certification program.

Before the board presentation, administrators met with parent teacher organizations around the district about how the application process for students to attend College View. A freshman and sophomore class will make up the first students who attend in the fall of 2016, along with those currently attending Timber Academy.

The same presentation included the future of CSISD’s dropout recovery program. Dr. Ealy said none of the traditional Timber are being kicked out. But administrators are looking at starting dropout recovery programs at Consolidated and College Station high schools.
