CS Planning & Zoning Endorse Relocation Of George Bush Drive Business Over Neighborhood Opposition

The future is now for businessowners located where TxDOT has plans to rebuild the intersection at George Bush and Wellborn.

Aggieland Outfitters co-owner Fadi Kalaouze told the College Station planning and zoning commission that TxDOT wants access to their current location by the spring of next year.

That was part of the comments before P&Z recommended to the city council to approve a request to rezone land a block and a half away for a new store, over the objection of homeowners in the College Park neighborhood of the Southside district.

Kalaouze apologized to P&Z members for becoming emotional…saying he heard no problems during 15 years at George Bush and Highlands and was making concessions at the proposed new location of Bush and Fairview.

P&Z member Jeremy Osborne, who made the motion to recommend aproval, said the request was in line with the Southside neighborhood plan that was passed five years ago.

P&Z chairwoman Jane Kee told opponents she supported what she called neighborhood retail over stealth dorm housing that she predicted would be built.

The request, which was supported by the four P&Z members in attendance, goes to the College Station city council on September 11th.
