College Station Mayor Ben White had a response for Jim Ash’s debate/forum request within a few hours of returning from Washington D.C.

On Thursday College Station resident Jim Ash requested a debate or public forum with the city regarding the red light camera issue.
Ash says the camera system is driven by revenue and because the violations are civil in nature people who get a red light ticket do not have the benefit of due process.
White and City Manager Glenn Brown got back into town Thursday night from the BCS Chamber trip to Washington D.C. and by Friday the Mayor responded to Ash.
White will propose to City Council at their June 11 meeting that a town hall meeting be scheduled to allow residents to voice any red light camera concerns they have in front of the full Council.
As far as having a presidential style debate, White says that is not something typically done in a town of this size and he doesn’t plan on having one at this time.
He says hearing from the citizens on every issue is important and if a majority of Council agrees with him June 11 then a public town hall type meeting is likely to come in June or July.
College Station City Council does have a meeting on Monday, but because of public meeting posting requirements White will not be able to make his proposal on such short notice.
