The College Station city council approved zoning changes Thursday affecting the corner of Rock Prairie Road and Highway 6 where the new Scott and White hospital and clinic are being built.

In front of the medical campus on top of the intersection, Weingarten Realty is developing ten acres.

The council approved a variety of exceptions for both Weingarten and Scott and White.

The council added one condition to Scott and White. Dennis Maloney called for adding vegetation to help hide 25 foot tall oxygen tanks that will be installed.

On the Weingarten request, one speaker from a nearby neighborhood voiced a concern about increased traffic at the already heavily travelled location.

In a related item, the council approved taking $1.6 million dollars out of the city’s general fund to pay Weingarten. That will settle the realtors lawsuit against the city over the land now owned by Scott and White.
