CS Council Votes to Extend Red Light Cameras

Red light camera contracts and a new comprehensive plan were both on the agenda Thursday night for the College Station City Council.

Council voted to extend their current red light camera contracts by 20 years in an effort to keep them in case state law on the issue is changed.

Council member James Massey says they did that because of the safety improvements the cameras bring.

While council was discussing the issue Massey addressed those who feel like the program is intended to be a “cash cow” with no regard for safety.

He says if revenue was the goal then Council would use only police officers and not cameras for red light violations.
