2013 marks the 75th birthday of the city of College Station.
The city council, with some deliberation at its last meeting, approved $10,000 dollars for someone to write an updated history book. The amount is twice what was originally budgeted.

Mayor Nancy Berry was looking for contract conditions, noting it’s highly unlikely authors would be advanced 50 percent or more.

City Attorney Carla Robinson says there’s a proposed contract but she did not reveal whether the author gets any or all the money upfront because there’s been no negotiations.
Councilman Jess Fields, who says the city shouldn’t be in the publishing business, voted against the expenditure requested by the Heritage Programs committee.
