Most of the burglary alarms that police in College Station respond to are false alarms. Staff and the City Council are interested in making alarm holders pay more for those calls.
Assistant Police Chief Larry Johnson told the council during a recent workshop they’ve been talking to an outside firm who would send out fine notices and collect the money.
The assistant chief also says Bryan and other cities using third party collection firms reduce the number of false alarms.
There was no council majority at the workshop on updating the fine schedule and how many free false alarms would be given.
Currently in College Station, alarm users get five free each year and $50 fines start with the sixth false alarm.
