College Station’s aquatic centers will run on a reduced schedule this summer, but the grass will be mowed for the season’s big events.
Those were among the decisions during a City Council workshop Monday after discussing how to make up a $140,000 shortfall in the Parks and Recreation budget.
Councilman Dennis Maloney was against skipping three mowings this summer, noting the importance of tourism to the city’s economy.
Each of the three city pools will be closed one day a week and the council endorsed in next year’s budget making parks and recreation programs pay for themselves. Councilman John Crompton said that may mean instituting first time fees for what has been historically free programs.
