CS Council Considering Tax Break for Large Employer

Thursday night’s College Station City Council meeting provided few details about a proposed tax break to bring in a large employer.

Information provided to the council calls for a ten year tax break on a new 50,000 square foot building, valued at $7 million dollars.

It would be built in south College Station off the freeway at the corner of Gateway Boulevard and Lakeway Drive.

It would be owned by the Research Valley Partnership and leased to someone offering to create 330 full-time equivalent jobs with an annual payroll of $12 million dollars.

While a public hearing Thursday was held there were no speakers.

Councilman Jess Fields’ attempt to ask why the city wouldn’t be better off selling the land in question was cut off first by City Attorney Carla Robinson then by Mayor Nancy Berry.  Both told Fields he wasn’t allowed to raise questions.

Comments from Jess Fields, Carla Robinson, and Nancy Berry.

The earliest the council will consider the proposal is June 14.
