The College Station city council has sold another large piece of property. 63 acres along Rock Prairie Road west of Lick Creek Park was purchased by TDI-Brooks Development, LLC. for $1.55 million dollars. The price was the highest of 12 offers for land acquired by the city in 1992 but in 2011 the council directed staff to sell.
Zoning-related matters approved by the council included bringing the second Stripes convenience store to the twin cities. The first to be built by the Corpus Christi-based chain will be at Wellborn Road and William D. Fitch. Earlier this year, Stripes acquired the former Chick’s c-store in Bryan. The council was told by Stripes director of engineering and construction Michael Choate they plan on 6 to 10 local stores.
Rezoning for a second convenience store was also approved, without fuel pumps, for an unidentified owner at Rock Prairie and Holleman.
The council also approved building townhomes at two locations on south Harvey Mitchell Parkway; one on the south side between Dartmouth and the freeway and the other between Southwood and Rio Grande on the north side of 2818.
Another housing related zoning approval was granted to developers was building up to 24/2-bedroom triplexes on Sterling Street, east of Texas and south of Holleman.
In other zoning related matters, the council approved a request for a hookah lounge in the Park Place shopping center at Texas and Southwest Parkway and a 150 foot tall cell phone tower at Victoria and Graham for T-Mobile.
The council approved several items related to traffic. That includes making a no-parking zone on the access road parallel to Texas south of Walton…in front of many businesses from Acme Glass down to Chili’s. Another change creates an all-way stop at the intersection of Jones-Butler and Holleman, south of the Penberthy fields on west campus. And there will be new traffic signals at the intersection of 2818 and Southwood, but no additional sidewalks as discussed during a workshop.
