CS Council 4-3 Vote To Change Land Use To General Commercial

One of the remaining stretches of rural property in College Station is now considered general commercial.

The 4-3 vote at the last College Station city council meeting involves changing the land use of 29 acres at the southwest corner of Fitch and Rock Prairie…across Fitch from the CSISD transportation center.

Councilman Barry Moore, who made the motion, wanted to make future homeowners aware of future development.

James Benham was among those looking towards future development on that side of town.

Bob Brick was among those voting no.

Mayor Karl Mooney voted no. He supported changing the land use of the 29 acre tract to general commercial closer to the intersection, and suburban commercial next to the Williams Creek subdivision.

Also voting for the land use change were Jerome Rektorik and John Nichols, while Linda Harvell voted no.

The tract is comparable in size to the former Gander Mountain and Academy stores, and about half the size of the Jones Crossings development now under construction at Wellborn and Harvey Mitchell.
