Criminal Histories Lead To Prison For Evading Arrest, Shoplifting, and Burglary

A College Station man who two years ago was seen by Texas A&M students loading stolen bicycles in his truck is headed to prison. 44 year old Stephen Alonzo Austin of College Station pleaded guilty this week in Brazos County district court to evading arrest with seven prior convictions. With a criminal history that also included multiple burglaries and thefts, he was sentenced to 20 years. Austin admitted to driving so fast on George Bush, including running a red light at Olsen, that University police discontinued pursuit due to safety concerns. Austin was caught a short time later by Bryan police following a foot chase.

A Houston man has admitted to his part in taking nearly $5,500 dollars of clothing from the College Station Sears store last August. A co-defendant is awaiting trial for her role in taking 63 pairs of jeans and 56 shirts over a 90 minute period.

In another district court criminal case this week, a Bryan man admitted to breaking into a mobile home in January of last year by using a screwdriver he borrowed from a nearby convenience store. 33 year old Alejandro Zarate, who took more than $2,000 dollars of property, was sentenced to eight years for that and another residential burglary that took place two years ago.
