Why The Crepe Myrtle Trees Have Been Removed Along Texas Avenue In College Station

College Station motorcycle cops have one fewer place to hide…for the time being.

For the last month, city crews have cleared out islands of crepe myrtle trees along Texas Avenue between University and George Bush.

Marshall Wallace with the city says they are in the process of replacing the brick walls and foundations that surrounds the trees.

Wallace says the islands will be replaced with stone similar to what motorists see along Texas, south of Harvey.

And new crepe myrtles will be planted around November 1, after attempts failed to save the original trees.
