Craigslist Ads Behind UT Campus Robberies

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Police say people trying to buy or sell iPhones on Craigslist are being lured to the University of Texas Austin campus for meetings and robbed at gunpoint.

Austin police Cpl. Anthony Hipolito says four such aggravated robberies were reported between last Friday and Monday. He says there would have been a fifth, but the target “got a bad feeling and backed out.”

Police say the thief places Craigslist ads listing iPhones for sale, and also responds to ads posing as a buyer. In each case, he requested the campus meeting place and robbed the customer of cell phones and other property.

Hipolito says college students aren’t being targeted and no one has been injured.

No arrest has been made.
