BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Texas A&M women’s basketball senior guard Courtney Walker was named SEC Player of the Week on Tuesday for her career-high 29-point performance against Little Rock on Dec. 22. This is the fifth career SEC Player of the Week honor for Walker, and her second this season.
Walker’s five career conference honors tie Lisa Branch (1992-96) for second-most all-time at A&M. Branch was named Southwest Conference Player of the Week five times, and Danielle Adams (2009-11) owns the career record with six career player of the week selections, all of which came in the Big 12.
Walker scored 12 of A&M’s 15 first quarter points, helping A&M exact some revenge on a Little Rock team that knocked the Aggies out of the 2015 NCAA Tournament with a 69-39 victory. The Edmond, Okla. native went 10 for 11 from the field and 7 of 8 from the line to set a new career-high with 29 points. It was Walker’s fourth 20+ point scoring effort of the season.
The No. 16 Aggies take on Prairie View at 2 p.m. today inside Reed Arena on SEC Network Plus. The Aggies tip off SEC play on Jan. 3 to host Georgia at Reed Arena on SEC Network.
