Courtney Walker Named SEC Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.- Texas A&M junior guard Courtney Walker was named SEC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week on Monday, February 23 after helping the Aggies to three wins, including a win at No. 11 Kentucky, over the past week.

Walker averaged 18.3 points and shot 48.9% from the field in the Aggies’ three wins last week, leading off the week with a career-high 27 points against Alabama on Monday. She had 19 points, 17 of which came as the Aggies took control of the game in the second half, in A&M’s 81-69 win at No. 11 Kentucky on Thursday.

Walker concluded the week with a strong defensive performance, holding Florida’s Cassie Peoples to no points, and scored nine of her own as the Aggies won 66-46 over Florida on Sunday.

The Edmond, Okla. native ranks second in the league in scoring, falling percentage points behind Kentucky’s Makayla Epps at 15.2 points per game. This week, she moved into the top 10 at Texas A&M in career scoring, passing Toccara Williams and Morenike Atunrase to move into ninth.

This is the second Player of the Week award for Walker this season and the third in her career. Walker won the first SEC Player of the Week award this season, after scoring 20.7 points in the Aggies’ season-opening tournament in Chicago.

This is the seventh time an Aggie has won SEC Player of the Week since A&M moved to the league in 2012-13.

The No. 15 Aggies, winners of 17 straight at home, return to action on Thursday, February 26 at 7 p.m. against Missouri for Senior Night at Reed Arena.
