County Judge Won’t Seek Re-Election

Brazos County District Court Judge J. D. Langley is not seeking re-election once his term is complete in December 2014.

The 85th district court judge says thanks to voters, he’s been elected through eight election cycles, serving six terms, and he says serving the public has been a joy.

Langley says his favorite cases were granting adoption and US citizenship, for which people continue stop him years later in the grocery store, smiling.

His 35 years of past public service include work as a marine, lawyer, and judge in two courts.

Langley says he’s enthusiastic about future opportunities for public service and says his options include taking a senior judge status and becoming a visiting judge, going into private law practice, or becoming a full-time educator, among other options.

Langley calls what will be 24 years of work as a judge once he finishes, “one of the things that makes you go home at night and feel good about what you’ve been able to do in a day.”

He says he’s looking forward to seeing what turns up over the next seventeen months.
