Coulter Airfield Receives State Funding

Coulter Airfield is getting a new Automated Weather Observing System, or AWOS, along with other small improvements thanks to TxDOT’s aviation division and the Bryan Business Council. The grant is part of TxDOT’s initiative to improve, construct and maintain community airports in Texas.

The AWOS will provide citizens and pilots with an early warning system for severe weather and will make Coulter Airfield an official weather reporting station. TxDOT’s, Bob Colwell, said it will increase the safety of pilots and patrons flying in and out of Coulter Airfield.

TxDOT is funding $140,000, which will cover about 75% of the project. The Bryan Business Council will cover the remaining costs. Work is expected to begin at Coulter Airfield in 60 days.
