Corps of Cadets Adjustments For Kyle Field Construction

The leader of the Texas A&M Corps of Cadets has been busy responding to social media comments about the first time in 30 years that there are no cannons blasting from inside Kyle Field following Aggie football touchdowns.

Commandant General Joe Ramirez has spent the last week responding to posts on his Facebook page after announcing safety reasons meant no blasts from “The Spirit of ’02” cannon inside the stadium.

Last week, fans saw a new cannon from the stadium’s new video scoreboard. Tomorrow, no live video feed is available.

Ramirez says starting with the Ole Miss game on October 11th, there will be live video featuring “The Spirit of ’02”.

And weather permitting, it will be brought into the stadium before kickoff then returned to the Parsons Mounted Calvary headquarters at Fiddlers Green south of campus.

Ramirez says cannon options for next year are being discussed.

The $450 million dollar Kyle Field expansion, which caused changes with the cannon, also led to a temporary relocation of the gravesites of Reveille I through VII. The memorial honoring the Cadets five star general also known as the First Lady of Aggieland is at the south side of Cain Park, along Joe Routt Boulevard.
