The Brazos Valley Food Bank received a very generous Christmas gift last week. H.E.B delivered 14,000 boxes of corn flake cereal to the food bank on Friday.
Theresa Mangapora, the food bank’s executive director, said it was a very significant offer of such a needed, staple item. She said cereal is a hot commodity, and she does not expect the boxes to be on their shelves for very long.
Mangapora said it has been a tough year for the area, and the food bank is always in need. For people wanting to donate food, she said canned fruits and canned proteins, such as tuna or chicken, are in high demand.
Something most people do not think of donating are diapers for babies and adults. Mangapora said they are expensive necessities that many families cannot afford.
