A student who attends A&M Consolidated High School is accused of setting a fire in a bathroom last Thursday that led to an evacuation.

18 year old Anson Sterling was arrested Monday afternoon on an arson charge. As of Tuesday afternoon he was in the Brazos County Jail, held on a $5,000 dollar bond.

College Station Fire Department investigators have not released what led to identifying Sterling and the reason for the fire in a first floor boys bathroom.

The building was evacuated for about 40 minutes. No one was hurt.

Fire Department spokesman Bart Humphreys says a damage estimate has not been submitted by the school district.

As for Sterling’s status at Consol, CSISD spokesman Chuck Glenewinkel says “All students are disciplined according to the student code of conduct and the state educational code. Additionally, CSISD considers three prongs when disciplining students…1.) Was the action done in self-defense? 2.) What was the intent or lack of intent at the time the student engaged in the conduct? 3.) Consideration of the student’s disciplinary history. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act prohibits us from commenting on specific disciplinary issues.”

Update:

Online court records show Sterling pleaded guilty to arson causing reckless damage in October 2017.
