HOUSTON (AP) _ A judge today sided against the longtime companion of Houston mega-lawyer John O’Quinn in a dispute over the scheduled auction of $5 million worth of vintage cars she says he gave her — as tokens of love.
Darla Lexington’s appearance in probate court Friday marked her first public wrangle with her dead lover’s estate.
O’Quinn, in a will signed one year before his October 2009 death in a car crash, left his entire wealth to his foundation — leaving Lexington, his companion of more than 10 years, without a cent.
After O’Quinn’s death, Lexington testified, estate managers kept er out of the loop as they decided what to do with his assets.
Lexington on Friday sought an injunction to halt the auction of three classic Corvettes, a rare French Talbot-Lago and a one-of-a-kind 1936 Mercedes-Benz. A judge today rejected her request.
An estate lawyer argued that the sale of the five cars, set for this weekend in Pebble Beach, Calif., is critical to settling a debt owed Bank of America.
