Comments From Brazos County Judge About Banning Heavy Trucks On County Roads

For the second straight week, the public comment portion of the Brazos County Commission meeting included a request to ban heavy truck traffic from going through the Nantucket subdivision south of College Station.

While the commission was not able to comment during the meeting due to state law, county judge Duane Peters told WTAW News after the meeting it’s a subject their attorneys are researching.

Peters disagrees with state lawmakers who believe there can be a ban because it’s been done in other counties.

Peters also brought up the county losing a lawsuit after imposing a local permit fee for big trucks 20 years ago.

Peters says if the county can impose a ban, they still have to give truckers a route that may affect another subdivision.
