College Station school board members are mulling over two options to address overcrowding at College Station High School.
The purple campus is already 46 students over capacity. Three portable classroom buildings are being moved in next year, when the campus will have 87 students more than capacity.
One option given to the board during a workshop Thursday was holding a bond issue this November or next year, in part for a $35 to $40 million dollar expansion to accommodate another 600 students.
Board members Michael Wesson, Carol Barrett, and Jeff Harris were among those saying that would be the first time voters would be asked to approve a bond issue for additional space at one campus while there remains space at another campus.
That’s because Consolidated High School is at 73 percent capacity. There’s room on the maroon campus this year for 634 students and 597 next year.
The only comments during the workshop referring to adjusting boundaries came from Michael Schaefer. He questioned how much farther south can the Consol zone be moved.
The only board agreement was on superintendent Clark Ealy’s recommendation that they and the community “marinate” on the options and resume discussion next month.
