College Station Power Outage Follows Two Fires

Two fires resulted in a power outage to almost 3,800 College Station Utilities customers Monday morning in an area generally bordered between University and Harvey and between the freeway and Texas.

The fires were at the same location, along Harvey Road near Munson. That’s where Atmos has equipment which regulates natural gas pressure.

Atmos spokesman Chace Murphy says an electrical guide wire from a transformer came loose and hit their equipment. Then the wire hit the transformer, causing the transformer to start arcing, and igniting the natural gas.

No injuries were reported and no Atmos customers lost service. In addition to the power outage, Harvey Road was closed between Munson and Scarlett O’Hara.
