News release from College Station police:
On November 26, 2014 at approximately 1050 hrs, officers with the College Station Police Department responded to the 8800 blk of Burgess Lane in regards to a report of a male possibly in crisis in that area. It had been reported that the subject, later identified as a 38 year old College Station male, had threatened to harm himself or others. When officers arrived they located the male, and observed him to be carrying an object of some sort in his hand. They attempted to speak to him further, however the male fled into his residence where he refused to come out.
During attempts to detain the male officers deployed an extended range impact weapon (ERIW) as well as a Taser, but these efforts were unsuccessful. An ERIW fires a projectile that is designed to temporarily incapacitate a person without causing serious bodily injury. There were no other firearms discharged during this incident.
Officers from the department’s tactical team and Hostage Negotiation Team (HNT) responded to assist in contacting the male who was refusing any assistance for his crisis. HNT members were able to continue communication with the male who eventually came out of his residence without further incident at approximately 1302 hrs. He is currently being evaluated medically and suffered no serious injuries as a result of this incident. There will be no further information regarding his identity released at this time.
