A WTAW listener texted us to report what sounded like gunfire Monday night near Veterans Park while youth games were being played.
College Station police officer Tristan Lopez told WTAW News that officers responded Monday night just after seven to the report of a deer which had apparently been struck by a vehicle on University near the park entrance.
The deer, which was still alive, was on the eastbound side of University near the median.
Ten minutes later, a request was made for a game warden to join CSPD officers.
About 20 minutes after the initial report, University was shut down.
Lopez says just after 7:30 Monday night, “the deer became deceased.”
Lopez added “Because the animal was seriously injured, and to prevent any additional suffering, a police officer euthanized the animal by gunshot.”
