As a part of their continued investigation, the College Station Police Department Traffic Division will be reconstructing the major accident that occurred on Friday, July 15th.
As a result, beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19th, portions of the intersection of Texas Avenue and Manuel Drive, will be closed to traffic for approximately 3 hours. Vehicles will still be able to travel through the area however; we suggest that motorists use alternate routes if possible. Periodically traffic on both roadways will be restricted.
If you must use either roadway during the time that officers are working in the area, please use caution. Officers will be in the area working on foot while wearing fluorescent traffic vests. These officers will be in and out of traffic as they investigate, so please be careful passing through the area and slow down.
The College Station Police Department would like to remind all motorists that Texas enacted the Move over Law in September 2003. The law requires drivers nearing stopped emergency vehicles, with lights activated, to either slow down or change lanes.
The “Move Over Law” requires drivers to take the following actions.
- If possible vacate the lane closest to the emergency vehicle if the highway has two or more lanes traveling the direction of the emergency vehicle.
- If you cannot “move over” slow to a speed not more than 20 mph less than the posted speed limit when the posted speed limit is 25 mph or more or
- Slow to a speed not more than 5 mph when the posted speed limit is less than 25 mph.
Emergency vehicles include police, emergency medical service and fire vehicles. A violation is punishable by a maximum fine of $200. If the violation results in property damage, the maximum fine increases to $500. If the violation results in bodily injury, the offense is enhanced to a Class B misdemeanor.
