A popping sound heard by two College Station police officers on the fourth of July was not fireworks or gunfire. Responding to an unrelated call, the officers saw a man with a tire iron in the parking lot of the Motel 6. The man was near a SUV that had the rear window broken. According to the arrest report, the man told officers he was going to use the tire iron to slash the tires. And the victim said the man intentionally rammed her SUV as she was trying to drive away. 19 year old Reginald Jenkins Jr. of College Station was arrested July 4 on a charge of criminal mischief that caused at least $2,500 hundred dollars in damage. After Jenkins was released from jail after posting a $20,000 dollar bond on July 5, he was arrested later that day on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was released July 6 after posting another $20,000 dollar bond.
