This week’s College Station school board meeting continued discussion on long range planning. Superintendent Eddie Coulson says a community-based committee will be formed early next year to examine the potential needs of the district. The committee will consists of parents, CSISD staff, community members, business owners and will be representative of CSISD’s demographics.
Based on growth projections and the district’s grade schools already at 93 percent capacity, a ninth elementary building could be needed in three years. And by the end of the decade, CSISD may need a tenth elementary, a third intermediate, and a third middle school.
There was also discussion about next year’s legislative action plan. Among other things, Coulson wants state lawmakers to replace end of course exams and other high stakes testing by using 23 districts that make up the Texas high performance consortium, which includes CSISD and the Anderson-Shiro district.
The CSISD board also approved two recommendations for next year’s school calendar. District patrons can vote online starting next Monday.
