The College Station ISD school board has announced a special meeting for Wednesday afternoon (May 29th).

The agenda includes discussion and possible action to change board policies and/or operating procedures regarding citizen comments.

This follows six public speakers at last week’s (May 21) regular meeting who criticized a teacher’s performance. The first three speakers identified the teacher and their position and read allegations written by 59 students.

When the fourth speaker attempted to resume reading student allegations, board members called a point of order and board president Jeff Horak told that speaker and others scheduled to follow that were other avenues to express grievances.

Horak also told the audience he wanted to discuss the board’s public speaker policy.

That discussion and possible action is scheduled to take place Wednesday at 4 p.m. in the CSISD board room.

Original story, May 24, 2024:

College Station ISD school board members will be visiting in a future meeting about revising their policy on public comments.

That’s after six people during the May regular meeting (May 21) raised allegations against a teacher, with the first three speakers identifying the teacher.

Board members interrupted the fourth speaker when he continued reading allegations made by 59 students.

Board president Jeff Horak, who noted they were given written copies of the allegations, told the remaining speakers to limit their remarks.

And Horak told the audience there is a procedure for notifying CSISD about an employee.
