Nearly 2,000 youth soccer players and their families are coming to town this weekend.
Recent flooding in the San Marcos and Wimberley areas forced the South Texas Youth Soccer Association (STYSA) to postpone their 52-team state finals tournament.
J.D. Wood, College Station’s Tourism Manager, said STYSA has a good relationship with the city, so they reached out for help.
“It was definitely unfortunate because they had been working all season, all the players and teams, to get to that point,” said Wood.
The city teamed together with other organizations to make sure the tournament would be played.
Wood said good weather made Veteran’s Park the first site choice, and had bad weather rolled through, College Station ISD and Texas A&M Rec Sports volunteered their turf fields for use.
“You add in the CVB working with hotels and Brazos Valley Soccer Association helping with volunteers and officials,” said Wood.
