AUSTIN, Texas — The College Station Cougars rallied in eight innings to beat Lubbock Cooper, 9-8 and will face Argyle for the 3A championship at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
The Cougars couldn’t find any offense in the first four innings against the Pirates, then erupted for five runs in the fifth to take their first lead of the game 5-3. Two of those runs came off the bat of Kyle Richardson who blooped a single to shallow left.
Lubbock Cooper would answer with two runs in the sixth to tie the game at 5-5. College Station answered in the bottom of the sixth with two more to regain the lead at 7-5.
In the 7th the Cooper Pirates scored three runs to jump back on top 8-7, only to watch the Cougars score one in the bottom of the 7th to even the game at 8-8.
In the 8th College Station’s Matthew Bennett delivered the game winner. His base hit sent Ryan Johnson home with the winning run.
