The city of College Station will continue to hold city council elections in even-numbered years.

A proposal to ask voters to consider moving to odd-numbered years was defeated at the last council meeting by a 4-3 vote.

Since 2012, College Station voter turnout in even numbered years ranged from 36 to 70 percent. Voter turnout in odd years ranged from six to ten percent.

Councilmembers John Nichols and Elizabeth Cunha wanted to leave the election cycles alone. That’s after voters approved three years ago to expand council terms from three to four years.

John Crompton and Bob Brick supported moving to odd numbered years.
