College Station city council members unanimously decide against selling land for a data center in the Midtown district.

The vote just before midnight on Friday (September 12) followed more than five hours of comments that included more than 80 public speakers against the project.

Before the public comments, the CEO of a Texas based company called Priority Power said the facility would be used for artificial intelligence purposes and not for crypto or bitcoin mining.

Near the site of the data center, which again the council rejected, is another parcel of city land that the council approved selling in January for a retail and housing project. Before voting against the land sale for the data center, the council unanimously voted to approve a staff recommendation to extend the deadline to March of 2026 to finalize the general layout and design of the retail and business development that will be located north of the Costco store.
