College Station City Council To Consider Leasing Former Police Department Complex To ILT Charter School

The College Station city council Thursday night unanimously approved leasing the former police department building and property to the parent company of International Leadership of Texas charter schools.

Original story:

A College Station charter school plans to launch a high school campus in the city’s former police department building.

According to information from the city of College Station, International Leadership of Texas (ILT) plans to open its own high school in the fall of 2023.

Until then, ILT and city staff have a proposed lease for the city council to consider this Thursday.

ILT will pay the city $1 million dollars over a three year period to use the old CSPD building, two parking lots, and five storage structures.

There is an option for two, one-year extensions. But city staff expects to re-occupy the complex at some point.

ILT is responsible for paying utilities, maintenance, improvements, and alterations.

The city is responsible for maintaining the heating and air conditioning system, the roof, and the structural integrity of the main building.

The lease also has a no parking clause on the William King Cole Drive, which includes no parking by parents, students, and third party vendors.

ILT is required to limit before and after school student pickup, which can not involve public streets. And there will be no school zone speed limits on Cole or Texas Avenue.
