The last College Station city council meeting for two members will include discussion about changing the oversight of the city’s tourism office.

One of the councilmembers who is retiring, Linda Harvell, received majority support during the council’s October 7th meeting to consider at the October 24th meeting, creating a council appointed board.

Joining Harvell was the other member who is retiring, Elizabeth Cunha, along with Mark Smith and Bob Yancy.

Four years ago, the College Station city council separated from the Experience Bryan/College Station agency and established a stand alone tourism office.

Harvell, who is a retired convention and visitor’s bureau executive, said after that decision, “I don’t think any of us had any concept of how much we would be left out in the dark as far as what our second largest in the city of College Station has done.”
