Some optimism in College Station’s retail community was brought up during the last city council meeting.
November sales tax collections were up almost three percent from the year before. And for the fiscal year, collections are up two percent from last year.
Economic development manager Aubrey Nettles says a top priority is bringing more retail entertainment, such as indoor rock climbing, to College Station.
Nettles also talked about options to fill vacated big box stores and hotel properties.
Consultant Aaron Farmer says he and the city are recruiting and retaining retailers who don’t rely solely on college students.
