A majority of College Station city council members tentatively supports contributing something towards the Salvation Army’s $9.1 million dollar capital campaign.

How much, was not reached during a budget workshop discussion on July 16th.

College Station council members were told that the Salvation Army was seeking $500,000 dollars apiece from the cities of College Station and Bryan and from Brazos County.

At the time of the College Station council discussion, the request had not been brought up by the Bryan council or the county commission.

Supporters of matching what Bryan and the county does were Mark Smith, Dennis Maloney, and Linda Harvell.

Mayor John Nichols was willing to consider less than $500,000 dollars. He was also interested in what the Bryan council and county commission does.

William Wright supported a contribution, but he did not indicate how much.

Elizabeth Cunha wanted more information before making a decision.

And Bob Yancy told the mayor he was opposed to a city contribution.
