For the second time in four months, the College Station city council has awarded a contract for memorial cemetery.

Once again, money to pay for the project comes from cemetery revenue and not College Station’s general fund.

That point was brought up twice during the last council meeting. Interim parks director Kelly Kelbly offered explanations during the council workshop and the regular meeting.

The council unanimously awarded a $498,941 contract to add seven-tenths of a mile of eight foot tall wrought iron fencing.

Weather permitting, it will take 50 construction days to install the fence around the north, east, and western property lines.

This follows council action in May to approve an architect to design a new memorial cemetery maintenance building.
