College Station City Council Approves Second Gateway Sign

A construction contract has been approved for the city of College Station’s second gateway sign.

Completion of the $150,000 monument, which is identical in design to what greets southbound freeway motorists at University, is expected by the end of August.

Assistant public works director Emily Fisher says it will be built next to the northbound lanes of the freeway at the Peach Creek Road exit.

Mayor Karl Mooney says the location is south of where the freeway will be expanded to three lanes in each direction.

TxDOT previously announced the freeway widening would start in 2021…beginning at Highway 21. The section to be widened from Texas Avenue in College Station to Fitch would not start until 2024.
