Rental housing in College Station is expected to be impacted by changes made at the last College Station city council meeting.

Jade Broadnax of the city’s planning department explained the amendment that removes language referring to blood relations and marriage and clarified specific familial types.

Councilman Dennis Maloney says this makes sense because 70 percent of rental housing, which makes up 63 percent of College Station’s housing stock, is owned by out of town interests.

The council adopted the changes by a six to one vote. Elizabeth Cunha voted no.

The changes were supported by the College Station Association of Neighborhoods and opposed by the Brazos Valley Homebuilders Association.
