Before the College Station city council approved the resolution, an explanation was given by finance director Mary Ellen Leonard that there are currently no legal bingo operators, so the city has been receiving no revenue.

Leonard responded to councilman John Nichols’s question if the bingo tax was in lieu of other taxes.

City attorney Carla Robinson explained the consequences of not adopting the resolution.

The Bryan city council’s resolution notes Bryan receives approximately $245,000 dollars a year from its share of bingo prize fees.
