Cold Weather Energy Saving Tips

Local and statewide power producers are monitoring weather conditions.

The peak demand is expected Thursday morning when we’re waking up and getting ready for work and school.

Energy saving tips from David Werley at BTU includes keeping thermostats no warmer than 68, opening blinds and drapes during the day to take advantage of the sunshine then close them at night, closing fireplace dampers when they’re not in use and running ceiling fans only when you’re in the room and run them counter-clockwise to push warm air down.

Werley also suggests placing furniture near interior walls if possible and away from exterior walls and older windows that may be drafty.

And caulk and weather strip around windows and entry doors to prevent drafts. Or, place towels at the bottom of doors and on window seals to help reduce heat loss and prevent cold air from coming in.
