City of Bryan Taking Over Animal Shelter Operations

Attempts to maintain the decades-long marriage of the City of Bryan and the Brazos Animal Shelter are over.

City employees will take over Bryan animal control services starting Thursday. The city’s help wanted page includes openings for an animal shelter manager, a shelter technician, and an animal control officer.

Deputy City Manager Hugh Walker says time ran out on the shelter to consider the city’s proposed contract. Starting Thursday, Walker says the city will take over operation of its shelter on Finfeather Road.

Walker says they’re in the process of hiring staff to take over their Finfeather Road facility.

The president of the animal shelter board, Judy LeUnes, says they found out through a shelter employee read the job opening on the city’s website.

LeUnes says the shelter board is focused on resuming fundraising, including the fifth annual Weinerfest on October 22nd.  She also says the board remains committed to honoring contracts with College Station and Brazos County.
