City of Bryan Public Meeting for South College Avenue Reconstruction

The City of Bryan is holding a public meeting Wednesday, February 3, 2016 to discuss the upcoming reconstruction of South College Avenue from Villa Maria to Sulphur Springs.

Barney Williams, Assistant City Engineer, said the goal is to improve travel for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists.

“We are taking a holistic look at that corridor and trying to improve all three modes of transportation,” he said.

Additionally, Williams said the road itself is in bad condition and needs repair.

The project split into two parts. Sidewalk improvements, shared-use paths and bicycle route improvements are funded by a grant from TxDOT for the Transportation Alternatives Program. The road construction and signal replacement is part of the city’s Capital Improvement Project Plan.

Williams said the design plan will cover both parts of the project.

The meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. at the City of Bryan Municipal Office Building, will begin with an informal presentation of the project scope with time for questions from the public afterwards.
