For the fifth time this year, College Station city hall is losing a senior administrator.
Planning and development services director Lance Simms is retiring in August after 22 years with the city for a teaching position at Texas A&M.
Simms, who has been the director since January 2014, started as the city’s building official in 1996 and was promoted to assistant director in 2005.
Simms is the third person to retire this year. I-T director Ben Roper has already left, and Dave Coleman…who is College Station’s former water services director and is now interim deputy manager, will leave after a city manager is hired.
Deputy manager Chuck Gilman recently left for a position with the San Jacinto River Authority. And the city council recently voted to hire a search firm to assist in finding the next city manager after Kelly Templin moved to the RELLIS campus.
