Christmas Week Arrests Includes Repeat Driving Offenders

Christmas week arrests includes DPS troopers catching a pair of speeders with lengthy driving histories.

For the second time in four months, a local motorcyclist was caught going more than 130 miles an hour on a local highway. In August, 23 year old Carlos Salazar-Hervert was stopped after crashing his bike on Fitch after speeding on the freeway. On Saturday, a trooper reported he was catching up to Hervert on Boonville Road doing 131 miles per hour. Hervert, who according to the arrest report has ten active suspensions, was in jail less than 90 minutes before he was released on a $2,000 dollar bond.

Another trooper catching a car the night before Christmas Eve going 85 in a 60 mile per hour zone on Wellborn Road resulted in the driver and a passenger staying in jail to serve time on other charges. According to online jail records, the driver…53 year old Ricky Griffin of Pflugerville…will be held until New Year’s Eve due to a misdemeanor theft conviction from 2008. The passenger, 33 year old April Griffin of Bryan, will stay until January 29th on a forgery case from the year before last. Both were also arrested for failing to identify themselves to the trooper who made the traffic stop.

Bryan police responding to a family disturbance Christmas night recovered an assault rifle and a 45 caliber handgun. According to the arrest report, yelling could be heard from three homes away. Six officers were on the scene after it was reported there were more than 20 other weapons inside the home. 28 year old Nicholas Kappel, who was wearing a bulletproof vest and a helmet, was arrested after he was brought outside by his mother and sister. That was after his fiancee jumped out of a window and ran to officers. Family members reported he fired a shot in the home and pistol-whipped his sister. The sister responded by punching her brother in the right eye, allowing her to take the gun away and unloading it.

Bryan and College Station police arrested two men last week at nearly the same time, who were attempting to cash forged checks at different branches of The Bank and Trust. The arrests came after police confirmed the fake checks with the account holders. TBT contacted police after 28 year old Justin Bowman of Florida said his check for more than $5,000 dollars came from a business in “Beau” Texas. And Ronald Stanfield III of Houston is accused of trying to pass a check for $1,900 dollars.

A 17 year old spent Christmas in the Brazos County Jail after he was arrested by College Station police on charges of taking a hoverboard and a pair of Air Jordans from a neighbor. According to the arrest report, Ronald Johnson III maintained he bought both items, which were taken on separate occasions this month. Johnson was identified after he left his cell phone at the victim’s house and it was found by the victim’s mother.

At 2:40 in morning on December 23rd, Bryan police responded to a citizens report of someone entering two parked vehicles. This was in the Fox Meadows subdivision east of the freeway and north of Tabor Road. According to the arrest report, an officer stopped the suspect’s pickup for failing to signaling a turn. A small black change pouch taken from a pickup and loose change from both vehicles led to the arrest of 22 year old Andre Densey of Bryan.
