Investigation continues after a one-year-old drowned in a Caldwell motel bathtub over the weekend.

Spokesman Julie Moody with Texas Department of Family and Protective Services says she’s not exactly sure of the events that took place prior to the drowning, but CPS has current custody of the couple’s other child, a two-year-old.

Moody says CPS is investigating neglectful supervision on the part of both parents.

She says in Texas, three children have drowned in bathtubs since the beginning of the year, and it’s very important for parents, grandparents, and caregivers to pay attention to their children, whether it’s in a swimming pool or a bathtub.

Moody says many times people think they can answer the phone or get dinner started while the child plays in the tub, but a child can drown in even just two inches of water, and it can happen in seconds, so they need to be constantly supervised.
