CHI St. Joseph Health Emergency and Trauma Center Opening Tuesday

The only level II trauma emergency room in the Brazos Valley opens Tuesday, May 10, 2016.

CHI St. Joseph Health hosted a preview ceremony on Saturday at the new center, which took over two years to complete.

Six speakers from CHI included the chief of the corporation’s Texas division, Michael Covert.

“You have truly one of the most outstanding facilities now in this country. You’ve thought a lot about what we were only thinking about in the past. This is true cutting edge stuff here in terms of the facility. It will attract strong physicians, it will attract strong nurses and people to practice here,” said Covert.

The new facility offers larger patient rooms, shorter wait times and the only highest-level trauma center in nine counties.

While CHI acquired the hospital last year, Monsignor John Malinowski remembered the sisters of St. Francis of Ohio, who founded St. Joseph’s 80 years ago.

“This year, the sisters of St. Francis celebrate the centennial anniversary of their foundation. Like St. Francis of Assissi, the sisters has always relied on God’s spirit to show them what to do and where to go. And in every place the sisters, like St. Francis, lifted the hearts of people with the spirit of peace,” said Monsignor.

After the speakers, guests were allowed to tour the new facility. Pictures are below.
